Farewell and good luck, Timo!

Through mutual consent, Timo Glock and the Marussia F1 Team are parting ways with immediate effect. The end of a truly great affair.

With the 30 year old German having raced with Marussia since its inception in 2009, Timo Glock has played a significant role in the up-and-coming growth of the team. To lose such an experienced member is a great loss, but due to unforeseeable reasons the team must take steps to secure its long-term future in an industry that presents more challenging economic conditions by the day.

John Booth, Team Principal of the Marussia F1 Team, commented, “Timo has made a very significant contribution to our Team over the past three seasons, helping us to develop our package to the point where, for a large proportion of the 2012 season, we were holding 10th place in the Constructors’ Championship. Timo is a fantastic driver and he has been a very popular member of the Team.

“Our Team was founded on the principle of benefiting from proven experience whilst also providing opportunities for young emerging talent to progress to the pinnacle of motorsport. We would like to

thank Timo for working with us to reach this decision, especially as he had a valid contract, and also for the contribution he has made to our Team. We wish him all the best for his future and I would like to congratulate the next team acquiring the services of such a competitive, professional and experienced racer.”

Brazilian Grand Prix | Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace, Interlagos, São Paulo

Crowds were wowed by one of the most dramatic races that  Formula 1 has seen in a long time. The Brazilian Grand Prix, which hosted the final race of the year, saw Sebastian Vettel able to secure his world championship for Red Bull by a mere three points more than Fernando Alonso and Ferrari. This made Vettel the youngest ever triple World Champion. But McLaren truly dominated the race at Interlagos, São Paulo this weekend, with Lewis Hamilton starting from Pole and leading for a large portion of the race, to then have his endeavours cut short as he was shunted off the track by Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg. However with Jenson Button taking control of the situation and fighting his way to the front of the pack, eventually taking the chequered flag, McLaren ended third in the World Constructors’ Championship.

Timo Glock and Charles Pic performed to the max, achieving a brilliant race result for the Marussia F1 Team ending in 16th and 12th positions respectively. Timo had a great start to the race reaching 7th position at one point, showing his experience and prowess, but was hit from behind by Jean-Eric Vergne and sadly for the Marussia F1 Team could not recover all the way to his advantage. The pressure was on for Charles to maintain his position in the race, but despite a sustained battle with Caterham’s Vitaly Petrov, the Russian managed to overtake Pic with 7 laps remaining, unfortunately costing Marussia F1 Team their 10th position in the Constructor’s’ Championship…

Hamilton bags his 2nd Win in the US of A! [Reblogged] from QNET VFan

2012 United States Grand Prix | Circuit of The Americas

The F1 USA Grand Prix 2012 was victoriously claimed by 27 year-old Brit boy, Lewis Hamilton, as he sped into pole position for Vodafone McLaren Mercedes at the Circuit of Americas in Texas. Closely in tail, Sebastian Vettel, driving for the Red Bull team finished the race in 2nd position only just 0.675 seconds behind the win. What a nail biter! Clearly a great fight till the end by both drivers. With Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso taking 3rd place, the USA GP 2012 also marked a glorious moment for F1 placing all three world champions on the winners’ podium together for the first time.

Hamilton was super happy about this 2012 victory after having won the USA GP back in 2007 when America last held a Grand Prix, not to mention this also being his 21st F1 win in his racing career.

The Marussia F1 Team made a great performance finishing in 19th and 20th position, as well as maintaining their 10th place position in the World Constructors’ Championship!

The beautiful Circuit of Americas also hosted a star studded crowd of Formula 1 racing fans, including the likes of Hollywood celebrities Michael Fassbender, Ron Howard, Matt Le Blanc and Patrick Dempsey, as well as celebrity chef and entrepreneur Gordon Ramsey.

Carlin: Chilton, Fourth in the championship

Despite a disappointing final race of the year, the Marussia Carlin GP2 team leave Singapore happy with a strong second season in F1’s strongest feeder series.   Despite tyre degradation and a difficult start hampering the progress of Chilton and Haryanto respectively, Chilton secures fourth in the drivers’ championship while Haryanto can reflect on an impressive rookie season. In only their second season in GP2, Carlin have come to be the team to beat in the final races of the season, taking three pole positions from the last four qualifying sessions and two Feature race wins.
Following his dominant win on Saturday, Chilton started eighth for Sunday’s reverse grid Sprint race.  Having made his way through the order in Saturday’s Feature race, Haryanto started just behind his team mate in ninth place.
As the lights went out Chilton made a good start to hold position, while Haryanto found himself blocked as the field narrowed to enter the tight first corner.  At the end of the first lap Chilton had dropped one place to ninth, while Haryanto was running in 14th.
Despite dominating the field yesterday, Chilton was involved in a close fight with Felipe Nasr for ninth place throughout the opening laps.  The fight became more intense after Nathanael Berthon was given the black and orange flag and was forced to pit, elevating Chilton to eighth, while Haryanto was still running in 13th.
On lap five Chilton lost eighth place to Nasr as his Super Soft tyres started to lose performance, and dropped to 10th shortly after.  A black flag for Sergio Canamasas effectively elevated Chilton from 10th to 9th and Haryanto to 12th, although Canamasas failed to serve his penalty for several laps.
The one and only safety car of the race came out after Robert Binder crashed and was left stranded across the start/finish straight.  After marshals had cleared away the accident, the racing action got underway again on lap 12 and at the restart both Carlin men held their position.  However, both Chilton and Haryanto came under attack and were 12th and 13th on lap 14.
Running on the Super Soft tyres, Chilton was clearly struggling for pace and was passed by his team mate on lap 15.  Haryanto continued to make progress and was involved in a close battle with Stefan Richelmi, which resulted in contact between the two on lap 20.  In a relatively uneventful end to the race, the young Indonesian went on to finish 11th, while Chilton was 19th.
Reflecting on his end to the season Chilton said, “I’m hugely happy and proud of what the team and myself have achieved over the past two years.  We have both developed as one and to grab fourth in the championship following our second Feature race win at the last round of the season is the icing on the cake.  I just want to thank the team and my engineer Andy for all their hard work which have made these results possible.”
Haryanto added, “It’s been a mixed season in GP2, as a rookie it’s been a steep learning curve and I’m happy to have shown my pace with a pole position and several battles for the podium but I’m frustrated that that hasn’t been converted into more points.  Having said that, I’ve built a great foundation this year for future seasons.”

Marussia F1 Team appoints Max Chilton Reserve Driver until Brazil

From the Marussia F1 Team:

The Marussia F1 Team is pleased to announce that rising star, Max Chilton, has been elevated from the team’s Young Driver
Programme to the position of Formula 1 Reserve Driver with effect from the 2012 Japanese Grand Prix next month for the balance
of the current F1 season.

The British 21-year-old from Surrey is enjoying an impressive third season in the GP2 Series this year, competing for the Marussia
Carlin GP2 Team, which is allied to the F1 team as part of its support for the feeder series. Only last month, Max won Round 9 of
the Championship in Hungary from pole position – the first of two poles so far this season.

In the role of Reserve Driver, Max will attend all of the remaining Grands Prix of the 2012 season, taking part in the engineering
commitments and preparing to deputise for either race driver in the event that they are unable to race.

Max Chilton, Reserve Driver, gave us the following quip:

“I’m delighted to be given this fantastic opportunity to be part of the Marussia F1 Team for the remainder of the 2012 season. My experience with the team at Silverstone for the Young Driver Test was a great taste of how F1 operates, and I’m so excited to be able to extend that into a proper working relationship as Reserve Driver at the remaining F1 events this year. I feel like my racing has really matured this season and to now be able to combine that with real insight into the engineering activities of an F1 team and the level of preparation required of an F1 driver, really moves my career onto the next level. I’d like to thank the team once again for this opportunity.”

John Booth, Team Principal, has this to say:

“As part of our commitment to supporting the next generation of racing talent, we naturally keep a close eye on the feeder formulae, particularly those which race alongside us on the F1 calendar. We reinforced our support for GP2 as the key stepping stone this season by joining forces with Carlin to form the Marussia Carlin GP2 entry. Max Chilton’s impressive performances for the team this season have gone far from unnoticed and he seems to mature with each new round. We were all delighted to see him convert that into, first, his maiden pole position and then his inaugural victory in Hungary last month. An important part of the education of any young driver looking to progress to the highest level of motor sport is spending time working closely with the engineering community and other, more experienced drivers. This is an important element of our Young Driver Programme. In the role of our Reserve Driver for the rest of the 2012 season, Max will be exposed to the demands of competing in Formula 1 to the extent that he will be fully prepared to step into the MR01 should it be required. Max has already driven the car at our Young Driver Test, so this is an opportunity for him to build on his experience of working with the engineers as well as the other demands placed on our drivers, including marketing activity. We look forward to having him on board as part of the Marussia F1 Team.”
