Farewell and good luck, Timo!

Through mutual consent, Timo Glock and the Marussia F1 Team are parting ways with immediate effect. The end of a truly great affair.

With the 30 year old German having raced with Marussia since its inception in 2009, Timo Glock has played a significant role in the up-and-coming growth of the team. To lose such an experienced member is a great loss, but due to unforeseeable reasons the team must take steps to secure its long-term future in an industry that presents more challenging economic conditions by the day.

John Booth, Team Principal of the Marussia F1 Team, commented, “Timo has made a very significant contribution to our Team over the past three seasons, helping us to develop our package to the point where, for a large proportion of the 2012 season, we were holding 10th place in the Constructors’ Championship. Timo is a fantastic driver and he has been a very popular member of the Team.

“Our Team was founded on the principle of benefiting from proven experience whilst also providing opportunities for young emerging talent to progress to the pinnacle of motorsport. We would like to

thank Timo for working with us to reach this decision, especially as he had a valid contract, and also for the contribution he has made to our Team. We wish him all the best for his future and I would like to congratulate the next team acquiring the services of such a competitive, professional and experienced racer.”

Brazilian Grand Prix | Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace, Interlagos, São Paulo

25 November 2012

 PIC P12 1:20.310

GLOCK P16 1:19.686

Crowds were wowed by one of the most dramatic races that  Formula 1 has seen in a long time. The Brazilian Grand Prix, which hosted the final race of the year, saw Sebastian Vettel able to secure his world championship for Red Bull by a mere three points more than Fernando Alonso and Ferrari. This made Vettel the youngest ever triple World Champion. But McLaren truly dominated the race at Interlagos, São Paulo this weekend, with Lewis Hamilton starting from Pole and leading for a large portion of the race, to then have his endeavours cut short as he was shunted off the track by Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg. However with Jenson Button taking control of the situation and fighting his way to the front of the pack, eventually taking the chequered flag, McLaren ended third in the World Constructors’ Championship.

Timo Glock and Charles Pic performed to the max, achieving a brilliant race result for the Marussia F1 Team ending in 16th and 12th positions respectively. Timo had a great start to the race reaching 7th position at one point, showing his experience and prowess, but was hit from behind by Jean-Eric Vergne and sadly for the Marussia F1 Team could not recover all the way to his advantage. The pressure was on for Charles to maintain his position in the race, but despite a sustained battle with Caterham’s Vitaly Petrov, the Russian managed to overtake Pic with 7 laps remaining, unfortunately costing Marussia F1 Team their 10th position in the Constructor’s’ Championship…

QNET sponsors bid to include Squash in the 2020 Olympics

https://i0.wp.com/qnet.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/World-Squash-Day-Group.jpg.jpg

Exciting news for all QNET sport fans! QNET has sponsored the bid to include squash in the 2020 Olympics, which took place at the Finals of the Hong Kong Squash Open last Sunday where members of the Olympic Committee (OOC) is making the big decision!

This Sunday, at the Hong Kong Squash Open, every spectator will be given a ‘Back The 2020 Squash Olympics Bid’ t-shirt with the QNET logo on.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERANicole David, World No. 1 Women’s squash player and Malaysia’s best known export, was in Hong Kong last weekend to play in the Hong Kong Squash Open (25/11 to 2/12) and to retain her title.
She has been the world number one for over six years now and in unrelenting form. 2012 has probably been the highlight of her career and she won all the first four tournaments she entered including the first ever World Series Finals in January, alongside the PSA event at Queen’s Club, London.

Small and slight, the girl nicknamed the Duracell Bunny is unbelievably fast on court and a great retriever with a fully rounded attacking force.

She is one of the top supporters and icons of the World Squash Federation’s bid for squash to be included in the 2020 Olympics.  “I’d gladly give up my 6 world titles for one Olympic Gold”, she said.   WSF has selected this year’s Hong Kong’s Squash Open to be the showcase event for the OOC to judge whether it’s good enough to be included in the 2020 Olympics.

Burkina Faso’s Ouedraogo wins Tour Du Faso 2012

Rasmaney from Burkina Faso

OUAGADOUGOU (Burkina Faso), Oct 28, 2012: It was a day of national joy and pride for Burkina Faso when Rasmane Ouedraogo was crowned the Champion of Tour Du Faso 2012.

The local boy achieved this feat after completing a gruelling 1,337.3km over 10 stages under the punishing sun, crossing tough but magnificent landscape in this West African nation.

The 26th edition of the Tour Du Faso, one of Africa’s premier cycling events attracted 15 teams and 70 riders including a team each from Germany, France, Netherlands and Belgium.

Champion Ouedraogo, who took up cycling as a sport in 2002, said he is very happy that QNET has come on board to sponsor the Tour. He attributed his success to determination and hard work. “I spent the last four months in France preparing for the Tour Du Faso with an intensive training program prepared by my coach.

“Since this is the fourth time I am participating in this Tour, I know the level of competition is very high and I was determined to be fully prepared,” he said.

QNET Director of Sports Sponsorships, Mr Joachim Steffen, said he is delighted that a local rider from Burkina Faso won the 2012 edition of Tour Du Faso.

“We share the joy and pride of the people of Burkina Faso today, and I say congratulations to you. It is truly amazing what Ouedraogo has achieved in this very competitive cycling event.

QNET actively engages in sports sponsorships – from motor sports and football, to hockey and badminton – and aims to promote collaboration and giving back to local communities, through its sponsorships.

The company believes their association with the Tour Du Faso will help positively raise the profile of the event, while drawing on the passion, teamwork, drive and success that is associated between sports and its direct selling business, as both are platforms for true excellence and performance.

Carlin: Chilton, Fourth in the championship

Despite a disappointing final race of the year, the Marussia Carlin GP2 team leave Singapore happy with a strong second season in F1’s strongest feeder series.   Despite tyre degradation and a difficult start hampering the progress of Chilton and Haryanto respectively, Chilton secures fourth in the drivers’ championship while Haryanto can reflect on an impressive rookie season. In only their second season in GP2, Carlin have come to be the team to beat in the final races of the season, taking three pole positions from the last four qualifying sessions and two Feature race wins.
Following his dominant win on Saturday, Chilton started eighth for Sunday’s reverse grid Sprint race.  Having made his way through the order in Saturday’s Feature race, Haryanto started just behind his team mate in ninth place.
As the lights went out Chilton made a good start to hold position, while Haryanto found himself blocked as the field narrowed to enter the tight first corner.  At the end of the first lap Chilton had dropped one place to ninth, while Haryanto was running in 14th.
Despite dominating the field yesterday, Chilton was involved in a close fight with Felipe Nasr for ninth place throughout the opening laps.  The fight became more intense after Nathanael Berthon was given the black and orange flag and was forced to pit, elevating Chilton to eighth, while Haryanto was still running in 13th.
On lap five Chilton lost eighth place to Nasr as his Super Soft tyres started to lose performance, and dropped to 10th shortly after.  A black flag for Sergio Canamasas effectively elevated Chilton from 10th to 9th and Haryanto to 12th, although Canamasas failed to serve his penalty for several laps.
The one and only safety car of the race came out after Robert Binder crashed and was left stranded across the start/finish straight.  After marshals had cleared away the accident, the racing action got underway again on lap 12 and at the restart both Carlin men held their position.  However, both Chilton and Haryanto came under attack and were 12th and 13th on lap 14.
Running on the Super Soft tyres, Chilton was clearly struggling for pace and was passed by his team mate on lap 15.  Haryanto continued to make progress and was involved in a close battle with Stefan Richelmi, which resulted in contact between the two on lap 20.  In a relatively uneventful end to the race, the young Indonesian went on to finish 11th, while Chilton was 19th.
Reflecting on his end to the season Chilton said, “I’m hugely happy and proud of what the team and myself have achieved over the past two years.  We have both developed as one and to grab fourth in the championship following our second Feature race win at the last round of the season is the icing on the cake.  I just want to thank the team and my engineer Andy for all their hard work which have made these results possible.”
Haryanto added, “It’s been a mixed season in GP2, as a rookie it’s been a steep learning curve and I’m happy to have shown my pace with a pole position and several battles for the podium but I’m frustrated that that hasn’t been converted into more points.  Having said that, I’ve built a great foundation this year for future seasons.”
