V-Malaysia 2013: RYTHM NATION is coming!

VMY2013logo

On one hand, this is the sphere of influence being held by a hand that represents our founders Dato Sri Vijay Eswaran and Mr Joseph Bismark. On the other, this sphere represents us, the network, the family, being held together by Dato Sri Vijay Eswaran’s guidance and wisdom.

The variety of colors in this logo represents the diversity of culture we have in our network and how we’re all connected and looking at the totality of this connection is a thing of beauty, a multi-faceted jewel that is both precious and endlessly compelling.

The separate fragments at both ends of the logo represent the ever-evolving nature of our network, of our family, and the fact that it is a beautiful work-in-progress reflects our network’s unique identity, that we will always be open to new things, new people, new possibilities. This testament to change and growth is what makes it (and effectively, us) beautiful because it adds a dimension to it, that of movement. We can stretch it further by saying that it is exactly the deal with perfection. Perfection is where everything stops and that is dull and boring and so, the constant struggle to achieve the highest goal is reflected by this incompleteness, whereby the missing fragments appear to be moving towards completing the image but not going quite there yet.

And finally, the blue ribbon binds everything together in one statement: RYTHM NATION. We, the network and the founders supporting us, comprise this nation. We are this nation: a nation that raises itself to help mankind and constantly raising the bar higher.

Are you in The Zone?

THE ZONE LOGO

It’s that time of the year again, when the BIGGEST, BRIGHTEST, and the HUNGRIEST in the network and converge at THE ZONE for a high-level life-changing experience with our beloved visionary and Founder Dato Sri Vijay Eswaran at the helm. THE ZONE, now on its third year, is packing more heat, more insights, and more learning customised for the EXCLUSIVE crowd who have been handpicked by Dato Sri Vijay himself. Strictly a ‘by-invitation-only’ event, THE ZONE is happening on 9 to 13 March 2013.  Only very limited slots are available for this all-important event so sit tight and be extremely proud if you get the invitation on your email in the next few days.

Dato’ Sri Vijay Eswaran featured in The Nation newspaper

The world cannot get enough of Dato’ Sri Vijay Eswaran.

Yesterday, November 4, 2012, our beloved mentor was featured in the newspaper The Nation. In an article titled “Sustainable CSR for foreign direct investors”, Dato’ Sri Vijay Eswaran was mentioned heavily as a great example of corporate social responsibility and charity work. Quoted below is the part of the article that mentions Dato’ Sri Vijay:

Amongst this handful who have already joined hands with this task, a businessman who is worth a mention is Vijay Eswaran, the Executive chairman of Hong Kong based conglomerate, the QI Group and a significant investor in Sri Lanka. According to the book “Top 25 Indian Luminaries” written by Dr. Anand Raj Giri, his global business enterprise spans 160 countries.

While he has a strong connect to India, Vijay Eswaran is also a Tamil whose roots are planted in the red soil of Jaffna through his grandfather who was a Sri Lankan Tamil. Three generations ago, his family migrated from Jaffna to Malaysia and Eswaran was born in Penang, Malaysia. As a businessman, his beginnings were rather humble, although he gradually became a force to reckon with, evolving into a prominent business leader in Asia. A significant action on his part is the establishment of the RYTHM foundation, the CSR arm of the QI Group.

Through RYTHM, he has made a difference in many parts of the world by initiating sustainable projects for education, community development, promotion of arts and culture and environment protection, which earned him a place in Forbes Asia’s philanthropy list last year. He has also been involved in several projects in Sri Lanka, particularly in Seenigama and some villages in the deep south of the country for Tsunami rehabilitation. It is understood that the foundation has also shown interest in launching development projects in the North in the near future. Eswaran is also known as an advocate of social enterprise as an effective way of giving back to society without it being charity.

Just last year his foundation established a school in Malaysia for children with disabilities and special education needs, and paid the lion share of its students’ fees, since Malaysia has weak laws regarding education for children with disabilities, and the public schools often fall short in this area.

Dato’ Sri Vijay Eswaran, “Malaysia’s Gandhian entrepreneur”, featured in Gulf News

Dato Sri Vijay Eswaran’s sphere of influence expands its reach!

At the Global Indian Business Meet (GIBM) in New York, Dato Sri Vijay Eswaran spoke to a journalist who is a commentator on Asian Affairs for the Gulf News in the Middle East about the gap that exists between India and its Diaspora, his own unique Gandhian approach to business and his book, In the Sphere of Silence. That conversation and parts of Dato Sri Vijay’s speech from the GIBM have now appeared as a feature in the Gulf News’ Weekend Review Supplement last November 1, 2012.

Here’s the article:

Malaysia’s Gandhian entrepreneur

Vijay Eswaran helms a business empire that spans the globe, but the Mahatma’s principles are among his most treasured possessions

He is a Malaysian by nationality and prefixes his name with the title “Dato’”, the equivalent of a knighthood, bestowed in Malaysia. But what is most striking about the man is his claim that he follows the principles of “ahimsa” (although it technically means non-violence, the scope of this connotation is widened to include ethical behaviour) which Mahatma Gandhi, the apostle of peace, not only preached but also practised.

The entrepreneur says he practises Gandhian principles even in today’s corporate world, known for its dog-eat-dog notoriety, where ethics tend to recede into the background and profits reign supreme.

Meet 52-year-old Vijay Eswaran, a Malaysian of Indian descent, who has set up a business empire that stretches across many parts of the world.

He was recently in New York to receive the New Global Indian (NGI) award for business excellence and philanthropy from the global Indian diaspora that descended on New York for the gargantuan Global India Business Meet (GIBM) 2012. Penang-born Eswaran is also an author, speaker and philanthropist.

He graduated with a degree in socio-economics from the London School of Economics in 1984. Thereafter he stayed on in Europe for a year and did several odd jobs. In 1986, he obtained an MBA from the Southern Illinois University. Finally, Eswaran worked towards creating his own business; he is today the executive chairman of the QI group, founded in 1998, an e-commerce based conglomerate with businesses diversified into retail and direct sales, technology, lifestyle and leisure, luxury and collectibles, education, training and conference management, property development and logistics.

The QI Group has regional offices in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, besides having a presence in nearly 30 countries through a wide range of subsidiary companies. The chairman of the Council of Quest International University in Malaysia, Eswaran is also on the advisory board of the Global Business Council and Corporate Malaysia Roundtable. In addition to the GIBM award conferred on him, Eswaran was given the Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year award at the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Award 2012. He arrived in New York as one of Forbes Asia’s top 48 philanthropists.

Eswaran addressed the audience that comprised, largely, of Indian industrialists and businesspeople from a number of countries, including Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, the UAE, the United Kingdom and the United States. He was given slots for two speeches at the event; the audience had eagerly waited to hear his views on India, his mantra for success and the much-touted “Gandhian approach”.

In an exclusive interview with Weekend Review in his suite at New York’s Plaza Hotel, Eswaran urged India to close the “gap” between itself and its diaspora. “These are people who have strong emotional ties with India, yet they are treated as outsiders. You have large Indian populations in a number of countries such as Mauritius, South Africa, Malaysia, Singapore and also in the UK, the US, Canada and Australia. The Indian diaspora does not have any advantage on investing in India. Indeed, persons of Indian origin sometimes have more advantages on investing in other countries,” Eswaran said.

Dato’ Seri Vijay Eswaran, QNET featured on Forbes Asia’s next issue

Credit: David Yellen For Forbes

Dato’ Seri Vijay Eswaran is on a roll this week! Forbes will be featuring our dear leader and grand mentor on their next issue of their Forbes Asia magazine! But you’re in luck–even if you can’t get a copy of the magazine, the article is already online at their site. It features Dato Seri Vijay Eswaran’s journey from way back before he started the business, through trials and tribulations, and then to his current success. Here’s an excerpt of that article:

Thousands have come to Jakarta from all over Asia, waiting with patience and anxiety for this moment. At last the music swells. An excited murmur arises; he enters behind a phalanx of bodyguards, and the crowd parts. People strain to touch him or at least his high-collared tunic. Spotlights cast him in a golden glow. He raises a hand in benediction, utters a few unheard words and lets the rush carry him on. Vijay Eswaran has arrived.

It’s a triumphant return to Indonesia for the Malaysian founder and chairman of the Qi Group, a young giant of multilevel marketing with sales that could approach $1 billion in the next couple of years. His annual three-day convention, training session, pep rally and lovefest, the VCon, has attracted more than 8,000 of his company’s so-called IRs. These are some of the 4.5 million independent representatives who buy and sell his products, creating networks that they call a chain of prosperity, giving them a business of their own and a vision of a better life.

Wrapped up in the adulation, it’s tempting for Eswaran to forget the last time his event was held here, in 2007.

Here’s the official announcement from QI Group:

Just earlier today, the November 5 issue of Forbes Asia went live on the Forbes website carrying two stories that are close to our hearts, one that spotlights our Executive Chairman Dato Seri Vijay Eswaran and QNET and another one on Taarana.

The main featured story “Selling A Better Life” talks about how Dato Seri Vijay built QNET amidst various challenges. From hopeless circumstances, the odds against him were quite high but he believed in the dictum that your reach must extend beyond your grasp.

The sidebar story “Backing A Pioneering School” features Dato Seri Vijay and the QI Group’s deep involvement in a number of charitable projects through the RYTHM Foundation. He and his wife Datin Seri Umayal Eswaran created Taarana, one of the first schools in Malaysia for children with special learning needs and whose main goal is to empower children and those similarly marginalised with the proper tools, skills and abilities to function and cope with society at large.

We are truly proud of you, Dato Seri Vijay Eswaran!

And, you might want to grab a copy of the November 5 issue of Forbes Asia magazine out tomorrow in 12 countries in Asia!
